Take Your Day

Imagine your normal day. The kind of day that reminds you to get away from all of this…the routine, the rat race, the repetitive nature of all of our lives. Even when we think we don’t have routine, it’s probably denial knowing that you have already conformed to the inevitable…life, maturity, being responsible, etc. The alarm clock goes off in the morning, you shower, get dressed, coffee, breakfast, make lunch, listen to the depressing sounds coming from the radio or television, get in the car for the commute, noticing your stress level is increasing every time you see someone else doing something stupid behind the wheel, arriving for your workday feeling more jitters than you want and knowing in 8 hours you do the exact same thing in reverse. It’s a day we dread, but we all live it no matter what our profession is. It’s like we all tried to tell ourselves and our friends that this would never happen to me. I won’t become the pawn; I won’t become the “norm”. If you can relate to any of this, than you are what we call an adult.

So in the spirit of fighting the power and washing away the crutch of everyday dullness and static mundane torture of cubicles, laptops, water coolers and the ever depressing fluorescent lights of life, take a personal day. Find one day a week when you can unwind, relax, live, breathe, laugh, party and dance with no judgement or whatever you want it to be. Take your day. You will soon realize that all that pent up anxiety, aggression and stress will come out of you like a wild fire or worse if you don’t.

Our day is a dip in the ocean whenever we can, to wash away the worries. For some reason it is and always has been our way of bringing in new energy for whatever is ahead of us. Therapeutic waves of sun, surf and sand. It’s nature’s bath that cleanses the soul and recharges the creative juices of life.

It makes us sound like a bunch of hippies again and maybe deep down we are, but days like this make everything in the world right again. In life, its days like this that most of us will never take enough of. But it doesn’t have to be an ocean, it can be a park, a day at the gym, a night of dancing, reading a book, visiting a museum or a gallery, eating your favorite sandwich, watching the world pass you by on a patio or the lazy man special and just do nothing.

It’s your day. Let it all go, or hold it in and see how long it takes until the stress fart of life comes out when you least expect it.
